For Software for Hardware’s next Staff Spotlight, we feature Ayaan Shirazi! Ayaan joined the team as an internal transfer from Univerus‘ corporate Unity team in 2024. As Software Developer, he has done incredible work modernizing SFH’s tech to streamline user experiences.
Question: What led you to your role as Software Developer?
Ayaan: Building and developing things from scratch has always sparked my curiosity and passion. This drive to create and problem-solve is what ultimately led me to become a software developer. I thrive on turning ideas into reality through coding, planning, and collaboration—skills that I’ve been able to hone and apply in my current role.
When my manager, Michael, first offered me the position at Software for Hardware, I had limited knowledge of the door, frame, and hardware industry. However, this unfamiliarity only fueled my excitement to dive in and learn.
One of my key responsibilities has been refactoring our codebase to make it faster, cleaner, and more robust. This task has been incredibly rewarding, as it combines my top three passions: agile planning, hands-on coding, and teamwork. Additionally, I’ve had the opportunity to work with new tech stacks and master them—a challenge I truly enjoy—thanks to the support and guidance from Michael and the entire team.
The collaborative and supportive environment at Software for Hardware has brought out the best in me, and I’m grateful for the chance to contribute to developing efficient, clean, and robust software for this industry. Taking the leap into this role has been one of the most fruitful decisions of my career, and I’m excited to continue growing and innovating alongside such a talented team.
Plus, I’ve learned that in the door, frame, and hardware industry, there’s always a key solution to every problem—I just have to code my way to it!
Question: What is your favorite part of working for Software for Hardware?
Ayaan: I’m genuinely excited about the future at Software for Hardware! One of the things I’m most looking forward to is continuing to innovate and improve our software solutions. Refactoring the codebase has been a rewarding challenge, and I’m eager to see how our efforts will streamline processes and enhance the user experience for our clients.
I’m also thrilled about the opportunity to explore and master new technologies. The tech landscape is ever evolving, and being part of a team that embraces innovation means I’ll never stop learning. With the support of my managers, and the entire team, I’m confident we’ll keep pushing boundaries and delivering cutting-edge solutions for the door, frame, and hardware industry.
On a personal note, I’m excited to grow alongside such a talented and collaborative group of people. The culture at Software for Hardware fosters creativity and teamwork, and I’m looking forward to contributing to more projects that make a real impact. Plus, I can’t wait to see what doors we open next—both literally and figuratively!
Question: What is a hobby of yours?
Ayaan: When I’m not coding, you’ll often find me cheering on Liverpool FC—YNWA! Supporting the Reds has been a passion of mine for years, and I try to channel that same energy into playing football myself whenever the weather cooperates.
I’m also a huge movie enthusiast. I love watching films with my friends and then diving into discussions about the plot, characters, and easter eggs.
To balance out my screen time, I make an effort to spend more time outdoors. Whether it’s hiking through trails or fishing, being outside helps me recharge and clear my mind. Plus, it’s a nice reminder that there’s a whole world beyond the codebase!
