Many businesses have taken a hit due to COVID-19, one current issue is the frequency and difficulty of generating prospectable employees. Through research, I have determined the prime criteria people look for in a job, along with an evaluation on the best ways to attract potential hirees. According to Comparably, the most common quality that people look for in a job is work-life balance.
For most of us, we have other priorities and responsibilities outside of our actual job; Finding a workplace that allows flexibility in scheduling can be the deciding factor for many. For the Door Software industry, it would be beneficial to acknowledge this need, and if possible, adjust and then present the flexibility to employees. GlassDoor analyzed which businesses throughout the U.S. and U.K., implemented work-life balance for their employees. Through employee responses, they defined the desired work-life aspects, “Flexible hours, benefits in and out of work and a focus on mental health are some of the key insights highlighted by employees at companies”.
In a 2020 article from Workstars, they concluded that Etsy, Zoom and Starbucks were rated to have ‘masted work/life balance’ for their employees, through surveys conducted by Glassdoor.
Starbucks in the top 5% of US firms for work/life balance as well as “professional development, best company for women and of course, work/life balance too – all reflecting the company’s mission to ‘inspire and nurture the human spirit, one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time’”.
Leading HR expert, Larry Jacobson, says it is critical to ensure that potential employees are interested in the position and company, “Keep job seekers engaged as much as possible so they’re the first to apply when things improve and you can activate your recruiting strategy more quickly.” Being persistent and focused on the process of taking on someone new is an aspect that will make an impact on potential employees. This idea, along with the implementation of work-life balance can be the deciding factor for a potential employee.
It is essential to keep your employees engaged, motivated and happy. In order to see success from all sides of the business, it is important to see employees as a top priority.
